How to rent Tuxedos for the Groomsmen

You may be wondering out loud whether this is even relevant to you as a groom or important enough to worry about. Trust me, when you are down to the last days, the “To Do” list just gets longer and more challenging to finish. The last thing you want is your groomsmen looking mismatched or ill-fitted in their tuxedos. So, here are a few step by step guidelines that will help you put a tick next to this task on your list, faster.

STEP 1: If you expect to put off visiting the store nearing the end of your wedding date, then be prepared to pull your hair out when either one of the groomsmen is late or can’t be reached. There are also issues like a wrong size or color so you might make several trips. Prepare in advance, even a few months ahead!

STEP 2: Synchronize the groomsmen tuxedos with the color you’re wearing and even with the bride’s dress. You might also want to ensure that they match with the female attendants so don’t feel awkward to discuss their outfits over a phone call with your fiancé or clothing coordinator. You normally stand out but somehow still blend in. For instance: if you’re wearing a grey tuxedo with a red tie, it would be a good idea for the groomsmen to have red handkerchiefs popping out of their black suit pocket. All the more perfect if the bridesmaids had single red roses stuck at the corner of their dresses.

STEP 3: Research and Compare your options. Check on-line or even have a casual survey amongst your friends and relatives for ideas. Compare in terms of variety, price and also the care taken to ensure their tuxedos are spotless clean and in good condition.

STEP 4: Time for measurements. Most Tuxedo rental stores offer tailor made fittings so make an appointment and ensure that your groomsmen arrive to have their measurements taken. You may even consider emailing the store each groomsman’s measurements if you have the details of which parts of the body size is needed (normally provided by the store).

STEP 5: Final fitting is important. Your groomsmen will need to visit the store 2 days prior the wedding to try out their tuxedos and make sure they are clean and well pressed. If they are not the type to consider this seriously, you might want to drag them on your own as many would prefer a last minute pick up and head straight for the function. They would each bring home their tuxedos on this day.

STEP 6: Time to return the tuxedos. This is one of the groomsmen duties to return the tuxedos to the store, usually a day or two after the wedding.

A simple task as this may be difficult and annoying if not well-planned in advance. Of course, if your groomsmen is experienced and have done this before, it might be easier on you. We say the groomsmen takes care of the groom…in this case, it might just be the other way round. Good luck!
